SRT Treatment

A humane way of treating non-Melanoma Skin Cancer

Superficial Radiation Therapy is a preferable and alternative treatment to the labor-intensive Mohs surgery for basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. While Mohs surgery involves the excision or scraping of the visible cancer cells and the removal of the thin layer of tissue at the bed of the cancer, SRT treatment uses superficial radiation to treat non-melanoma skin cancer without any cutting or scaring of the skin. SRT treatment involves a series of about 30-60 second sessions to treat the exact location of the cancer cells without harming neighboring healthy tissue. Mohs surgery cuts through healthy tissue and creates scars that have a lengthy healing process that leaves the patient with permanent scars for life.
Not only is SRT a humane way of treating NMSC but is the adequate treatment for patients who are high risk for surgery due to a diabetic or cardiac disease or those with facial squamous or basal cell carcinoma. The low-energy radiotherapy goes only skin deep with its precise dose delivery system. It is effective, painless, and cosmetically attractive alternative to surgery.
